Our Work- Automation of Job Card Management Process For Mesaba Aviation Inc

Client
Mesaba Aviation, Inc. is an American regional airline based in Eagan, Minnesota. The airline is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pinnacle Airlines Corporation.

Business Need:
Client was managing the Job Cards for any maintenance work done by their staff using excel files/VBA and thus was facing difficulty in tracking the jobs and its related tasks. They had to do a lot of data collection to generate end of day reports which was a sheer waste of time and efforts. Thus, there was a need to automate the whole Job Card Management Process.

Solution:

§  We worked with the client to develop a Job Card Maintenance System that can be used by the Planner and the Maintenance Type of Users within the organization.

§  The Job Card Automation program was designed to communicate information between the maintenance planning team and the airline mechanics about required maintenance necessary for the Mesaba planes.

§  There were 2 primary interfaces within the application:

·      Corporate Planning Interface: The Interface utilized by corporate maintenance planning team members to release work orders to the mechanics.

·      Airline Maintenance Interface: The interface utilized by Airlines Maintenance personnel to identify and print required maintenance work planned for Mesaba aircraft.

§  Using this application, Planners can release any Work Package so that Maintenance users can view and print them. Both Planner/Maintenance users also have an option to Add New Work Packages and to add Tasks to existing Work Packages.

§  In order to support the Web Component, the Job Card Application had background process that ran as Scheduled Jobs that imports the needed Job Card related Data from their existing AS/400 system. Another process was responsible for printing the Work Packages and Job Cards in background to the appropriate printer at various Facilities.

§  The application allowed Maintenance Users to see the Open Work Packages which can be filtered on the basis of Station and Aircraft. The Station and Aircraft Dropdowns were populated dynamically from the Job Card Database. The maintenance user can Specify Ref# for various tasks, Review and Add Notes at Job Card level, Complete, Print and View the Job Cards, Specify the Actual Time put by Mechanics for a Job, Add a New Job Card/Task, Print and View the Complete Work Package and/or Mark Work Package as Complete.

§  Using this application, a planner can view and edit the status of any work package based on the tasks that have been completed.

§  The application also provided daily, monthly reports on the work packages by their status, efforts by mechanics (Normal Hours & Overtime Hours), Completed work packages summary, etc.

Business Benefits:

§  Better Utilization of Efforts
§  Improved Reporting and Dashboards
§  Higher Quality and Reliability with association of correct tasks with the Job cards
